The Beluga Bulletin highlights ongoing collaborative efforts between Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), the Fisheries Joint Management Committee (FJMC), and Inuvialuit communities. The Beluga Summit II, scheduled for February 2021 in Inuvik, will focus on topics like Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), beluga movement, population status, and human health linkages. Following the success of the first summit, this event aims to further document and incorporate Inuvialuit knowledge on belugas, supporting national assessments like COSEWIC. The Knowledge Co-production Program combines Inuvialuit knowledge and Western science, with initiatives including beluga tagging, habitat studies, aerial surveys, and health research. These efforts are a step toward better understanding and managing the beluga population in the region.
